2025 Membership Cards Update

There is clarification on the missing 2025 Membership Cards.
If, in addition to being an S.A.L. member, they are also a Legion Paid-up-for-Life member, those are the S.A.L. cards that have yet to be printed and distributed.

When we know more about receiving them and getting them out to you we will send another update.

55th Detachment Convention in Appleton

JULY 12-14, 2024

There is still time to register for our Annual Convention.

With regards to the Election of Officers and voting on Resolutions, only Delegates to the Convention are able to vote.  Each Squadron is allowed a certain number of delegates, which is based upon the Squadron Membership as of 45 days before Convention (this year is May 28th).  The calculation for determining number of delegates is as follows per our Constitution & Bylaws:

In the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Wisconsin, each Squadron shall be entitled to one (1) delegate for every ten (10) members plus one (1) delegate for any fraction thereof, and one (1) alternate delegate for each delegate, based upon the actual membership.

See below under Convention Resources for the agenda, your delegate counts, registration, and more.  All of which is also available under wisal.org/convention.

Also, please know Convention is open to all members, even if they are not a delegate.  So please do not restrict  attendance to only your Delegates.

We have a lot to celebrate this year, it would be awesome if your squadron was represented at this event.  We hope to see members from your Squadron there!!

2024 Badger Youth Camp

Badger Youth Camp - 2024 - was a huge success and one the Sons of The American Legion look forward to every year!

This year provided an opportunity for about 100 children of active duty service men and women from Wisconsin. We had the pleasure of addressing two groups for about 90 minutes each.

Joyce Buehl, Past Auxiliary President, entrusted me with "That Old Ragged Flag" that she wrote based on the Johnny Cash song of the same name. To that we added how the American Flag began, the importance of respecting the flag, how TAPS was created, how to properly fold an American Flag and how it should be retired when the time comes.

We were blessed with four veterans who graciously answer every question from the children about their service. The discussions were fantastic and I'm told the kids were really excited about all they learned and did. The staff were amazing to work with and we can't thank JD enough for making the SONS part of this camp. We're already making plans for next year's Camp.
