So have you made your reservations for Mid-Winter yet? This is the question every squadron commander should be asking their members. There’s still time to get those reservations in. Cost is only $20 per person if you register by 1/6 to attend all the many training sessions The Legion has scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Interested in learning about how to write your history, or help in revitalizing your group, or getting the community involved? Mid-Winter is the place to do it! I am also pleased to announce that we will be holding our own training session on Saturday from 1:00- 3:00. We have an interesting and educational session planned, including 2 special guests! Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about your organization and ways to make your Squadron more successful. We will also have our DEC meeting where you will hear what’s happening in our Detachment. Be sure your squadron is represented. You can also attend the Forward Together Celebration Banquet ($35 per person) on Saturday night. For complete information go to www.wisal.org/midwinter. Registration forms, housing information and schedules are available. Mark your calendar and plan to be there: JANUARY 16-19, 2020 Ho-Chunk Convention Center S3214 County Highway BD, Baraboo, WI 53913.

Commander's Special Project: Homeless Veterans
Goal $100 donation per squadron
It’s cold outside so we turn up the heat. A normal thing for use to do. But what about our veterans who find themselves homeless? We can quote statistics, but the bottom line is no one who fought for our freedom should ever have to sleep on the street. We need every squadron to participate in this project. If your bank account is low, why not hold a fundraiser and donate the profits? Every donation helps! Please use our donation form and send your generous donations to: SAL-WI c/o Tom Petrie, 808 E Cady St, Watertown, WI 53094.

Membership - How are we doing?
Congratulations to all the squads that are at 100% or more! There are too many to list here, but great job everybody!! As a Detachment we are at 63.41% in membership, 10th in the nation, first in the Central Region. That’s really good for this time of the year, but we can’t stop now. We still have way too many squadrons that haven’t sent in any memberships. Talk to your members, remind them their membership could lapse and their benefits as well as continuous years of membership could be gone. Send in memberships as you receive them, don’t hold on to them! Remember that you can contact your detachment vice commander or me if you have any questions or need help with your membership. We are all here to help. The latest membership reports are at https://wisal.org/membership-reports/

www.legion.org/sons: Have you checked out the National Sons of The American Legion website? There is a lot of great information for your squadron, including forms and various publications that will be very helpful in running your squadron. www.wisal.org is our Wisconsin website where you will find information on our meetings and events, the Consolidated Report form, membership information and reports, awards that you could win and so much more. Take a little time to browse these websites, it’s worth your time to see how much information is available.

We plan to continue our active participation in attending deployment events around Wisconsin and providing the children of deploying service members a cuddly friend to help them cope during a parents’ absence. While the G I Josh that we all know and love will be heading off on a permanent deployment of his own, there will be a new critter in town to provide comfort to these young heroes. The program needs your continuing support. Goal is for squadrons to donate at least $1 per member, $5 would be great! Please use our donation form.

As this calendar year rapidly draws to a close, I want to take a moment away from our business to wish each of you the joys of the Holiday Season. My wife Diana and I are so privileged to be spending the Holidays with our daughter April, son-in-law Kris (USN) and our beautiful granddaughter Addison in Poulsbo, Washington, and we hope that each of you will be able to enjoy time with your families. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
