Governor ProclimationsFlags at Wisconsin National Guard armories, air bases and other facilities across the state will fly at half-staff Saturday (Sept. 11) in honor of U.S. Army Pvt. Adam Novak, who lost his life while serving his country in Operation Enduring Freedom. The Guard will render these honors in accordance with an executive order issued by Gov. Jim Doyle. The governor has also issued an executive order to fly the flags at half-staff on Sept. 11 in remembrance of Patriot Day.
All Wisconsin state government facilities are covered by the governor's order and a 2007 amendment to the U.S. Flag Code now requires all federal facilities in Wisconsin to comply. Other government agencies, businesses and private residences with flagpoles may also honor Pvt. Adam Novak by lowering their U.S. and Wisconsin state flags to half-staff during the daylight hours on Sept. 11
When the President of the United States or the Governor of Wisconsin orders flags to fly at half-staff, that order is now available online for viewing at http://dma.wi.gov/dma/news/flag.asp , subscribe and get an email notice of these proclamations.
Updates regarding Presidential Proclamations can be found at the White House website: http://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing_room/proclamations/

NEF is Named as the Commanders ProjectCommander Severson has announced that his commander’s project will be the American Legion National Emergency Fund. Commander Severson is challenging each Squadron to donate $1.00 per member to the NEF. The Commanders goal is $3000.00 dollars donated to NEF by May 2011. Are you up for the challenge?
The National Emergency Fund has provided over $6,000,000 in direct financial assistance to Legion family members and posts. The National Emergency Fund has kept posts from closing and enabled Legion family members to begin to rebuild their homes and their lives. Find more about the NEF at http://legion.org/emergency.
When your squadron donates to the NEF they will receive a ribbon and citation from the National Commander of the American Legion. Additionally the squadron with the greatest per donation over $1.00 per member will be awarded the Chrystal Commanders Plaque of Excellence. Individual SAL members who donate will be eligible to enter a drawing for emblem sales gift certificate and more. As an added incentive, Commander Severson will donate to the NEF in the name of each Squadron who reaches 100 percent membership by Veterans Day.
What can you do? Hold a brat fry or spaghetti dinner, take donations at your meetings, ask local businesses to donate. Make this a fun challenge and help your Legion Family over come hardship and loss.
Make donations payable to the National Emergency Fund and mail to Detachment Finance Officer Dennis Stockfisch N56W18346 Evergreen Ln, Menomonee Falls WI 53051, if you send your donations directly to NEF make sure you clearly state SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION SQUADRON#___.
Regional and National ReportWe have the Central Region Challenge again, this year Iowa, Illinois and Missouri have joined Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. This challenge is a fun rivalry between the Central Region Detachments with the winner receiving gifts from the losing detachments, based on the last membership report prior to the National Convention. Currently we are in the lead, let’s keep it that way. We are holding steady at eighth in the nation. Make Commander Severson and National Vice Commander Gryskiewicz proud, by getting your membership in early, increase your donations to CWF and NEF, do more for our veterans.
